Mapletech Productions LLC, originator and provider of Staccato™, is located in Montgomery County among the Business and Industrial Centers northwest of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA. Mapletech Productions has operated as an independent consulting sole proprietorship since 1992, and in 2008, was established as an LLC. Mapletech Productions LLC is a veteran-owned business registered and currently operating in Pennsylvania.

Mr. Don Carl Berndt, owner and general manager, formed  Mapletech Productions LLC specifically to provide Staccato™ training products and consulting services to the global embedded software development community. Mr. Berndt has distinguished himself as a contributor throughout his 35+ years experience in the electronics industry. Through his diversity of work experiences, from his early years as an electronics technician through his contributions as a degreed senior software engineer and consultant, Mr. Berndt has accumulated valued technical skills used in the military, medical device and communications industries. Mr. Berndt earned a B.S. in Computer Engineering with honors, is an IEEE member, an SME for an Expert Now IEEE module and is a former MTS at Bell Labs/ AT&T.

Mr. Berndt began using Finite State Machine concepts while designing and developing firmware for communication devices at AT&T Bell Labs in 1982. Although FSMs had traditionally been used in sequential circuit design at that time, Mr. Berndt recognized their usefulness during his undergraduate courses at Spring Garden College and began using them in embedded software architecture. Over the ensuing years of applying Finite State Machine principles to various embedded projects, and with additional valuable refinements, Mr. Berndt determined that these important concepts should made available to the entire embedded system software development community, and in 2005, began the Staccato™ Project, as currently embodied on this website. Mapletech Productions LLC anticipates further evolution of the Staccato™ software architecture through the contributions and collaborations with both individuals and major organizations.
